Sound Wave
Korean artist Jean Shin created this sculpture "Sound Wave" (2007) out of melted vinyl records to connote "the inevitable waves of technology that render each successive generation of recordable media obsolete." Click the pic for the full story.
It should be paired with a dude surfing the wave for new music. "Represent Noyo" being the big kahuna.

Elementary...
Rachel McAdams will star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes," a reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's supersleuth that Guy Ritchie is directing for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.
The movie, which will begin shooting next month, takes its cue from a forthcoming comic book that producer Lionel Wigram wrote as a selling tool for a new take on the classic character. The concept sees Holmes as more adventurous and less stuffy than previous screen incarnations and mines more obscure character traits.

Johnson takes trip to 'Tomorrowland'
Segment of Disneyland gets 'Pirates' treatment
After turning the theme park ride "Pirates of the Caribbean" into a blockbuster film trilogy, Disney is circling an entire segment of its theme park — Tomorrowland — as inspiration for a space movie that will star Dwayne Johnson.
The studio has set scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore to draft an epic-sized action adventure set in space. The film is being designed as a vehicle for Johnson, who starred for the studio in family hit "The Game Plan" and most recently completed "Race to Witch Mountain."

Only You Can Silence Yourself
Declare Yourself, the national nonpartisan, nonprofit youth voter initiative is launching a powerful print and viral campaign aimed at energizing young adults to register and vote in the 2008 election. The campaign, entitled, “Only You Can Silence Yourself,” features Jessica Alba (The Fantastic Four, Sin City) in a series of images by renowned photographer Mark Liddell. The striking photographs feature Alba quite literally silenced—with gags and masks stifling her voice as a citizen. The photos are available for download at www.DeclareYourself.com, and can be circulated virally; they will also be featured in national publications this fall.
"I really don’t see the point in not registering to vote,” said Alba. “We sign up for MySpace pages and Facebook pages, and download music off the internet. The least people can do is register to vote online, actually making a difference in their world, not just making their lives a little bit cooler. It makes more sense to spend your time making a change in society—and it actually doesn’t take that much time! It takes more time to make a music playlist than it does to register to vote."
-- from enewsi.com
Ms. Alba speaks the truth. But will people actually listen? Would you listen?

Not Cool Hogan, Woooooo
Awoke early today (not by choice) = Not Cool
Awoke early today (not by choice) to learn that former boyhood hero, 18 time world champion wrestling legend Ric Flair had been assaulted by his daughter's boyfriend = Extremely Not Cool
Cops: Ric Flair roughed up by daughter's boyfriend
By MARLON A. WALKER – 18 hours ago
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Most of former professional wrestler Ric Flair's fights were scripted. But Chapel Hill, N.C., police didn't find anything fake about the blood and bruises on the Nature Boy after a fight with his daughter's 22-year-old boyfriend.
Neither man was charged, but Flair's daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr, was charged for resisting police after the 22-year-old became belligerent and kicked an officer, Chapel Hill police Lt. Kevin Gunter said Tuesday.
Neighbors called police about 2:30 a.m. Friday about a fight at an apartment in the city about 30 miles northwest of Raleigh. The fight was over, but officers followed a trail of blood to Fliehr's apartment.
She told police the men had fought but it was over and things were fine. Officers found the 59-year-old Flair, whose real name is Richard Fliehr, on a bed in the back room. The boyfriend was in another part of the apartment.
Flair admitted fighting with the boyfriend but he didn't want to press charges, Gunter said. Gunter refused to give the boyfriend's name because he was not charged.
"He was kind of elusive," Gunter said of Flair. "He said everything was fine. Officers said he had a 'no problems here' kind of attitude. He just wanted everything forgotten."
To respect the Nature Boy's legacy, the link below is required viewing. At :17 seconds is absolute classic material - Flair takes off his shoes and screams "my shoes cost more than your house!"

Dreamo's Certified Heater of the Week
Sometimes a heater isn’t about jamming with crew or an unstoppable positive feeling. A heater strikes a chord with you can evoke a vast array of emotions – from love to sadness, from celebration to mourning. Not to be a Debbie Downer, this week’s heater comes to us from Tdot’s own D-Sisive. The track is called Brian Wilson off his “The Book” EP. D-Sisive also just released a track with Guilty Simpson and works closely with Muneshine. Be sure to cop the Ostrich gear which acts as the visual on the youtube link.

This isn't my usual posting of dope rap but that's the beauty of this blog... anything goes!
I'm all about supporting local artists. Especially bands that sell their own vinyl at their shows. Saw these guys live last week and they were awesome! More people need to know about Newmarket's own, Tokyo Police Club.
They can be classified under the neo-indie-rock sound... upbeat and just fun music. It's hard to make a comparison to another band but if I had to, I'd say they're kind of like The Strokes but not really.
But enough of me trying to describe them. Just check them out! And if you ever have the opportunity to see them live, don't pass it up.

Columbia Pictures is getting serious about scaring up a new installment of its blockbuster Ghostbusters franchise.
The studio has set "The Office" co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.
"Ghostbusters" was Columbia's highest grossing film ever, until it was beaten by Men in Black and then Spider-Man.

Simple things amuse simple minds. With that in mind, welcome to the world of YTMND:

Introspection
THE MAN IN THE GLASS
When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.
For it isn't your father or mother or wife
Who judgement upon you must pass;
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.
Some people may think your a straight-shootin' chum
And call you a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.
He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end.
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend.
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life
And get pats on your back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.
YES

Ak's Artist of the Week - Charles Hamilton
Don't sleep on this dude. One of those mc's who after one listen made me throw my keyboard at the wall and then go and find every song/mixtape he's done until now. I don't even want to put up a single track to preview because I feel one or two songs can't do his dopeness justice. Download the first mixtape of The Hamiltonization Process, entitled "Death of the Mixtape Rapper".
Charles Hamilton is set to give a new definition to the word “tour” with The Hamiltonization Process.
The critically acclaimed rapper will partner up with several leading web sites and blogs for a three month, eight site tour which begins September 2 on OkayPlayer.com and concludes December 9 on OnSmash.com. Hamilton is also partnering with music site Imeem.com for the venture.
The cyberspace tour hopes to reach two million unique visitors. New music from Hamilton will be streamed on each site for two weeks. After that, users will be able to embed the music for personal sites and blogs courtesy of Imeem’s music player.
All new music will be mixed by Hamilton’s official DJ, DJ Skee.
